Canada Post Strike – For Real?

Just in case you haven't been looking at world news the Canada Post Strike is a pretty interesting unfolding situation. From what I've gathered here are a couple of things I've been pulling together.

Canada Post Strike – It's For Real

Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) was set to June 1, Thursday at 11:59 p.m. EST.

So a strike can't be good for anyone and of course there were deals sent back and forth to iron out the details but of course the strike hit and BAM – no postal service for Canada.

So then 2 weeks of rotating strikes Canada Post locked everyone out. I mean everyone.

Workers came into work wanting to get a paycheck and earn their way to trading time for money and they were DENIED!

I mean how frustrating is that? When we have the thought that people can “go postal” due to the job and you can't even “go postal”!

It's bad enough to be trading time for money but then to do it in a job that doesn't exactly put a smile on your face to only get the door LOCKED on you. Ouch!

Yes, I'm in the USA so how does a Canada Post Strike mean anything to us down south? You can learn a lot actually.

My Residual Income Model To Pay For My Vacations

I've been traveling for a bit and hitting Palm Springs and Hawaii has been pretty fun. Check out my residual income model on how I use the internet to build my side businesses while I work a full time Mechanical Engineering job.

Do You Have A Residual Income Model In Place?

One of the truly obvious observations when traveling is that the rich vacation a LOT more than normal people. Is it because they have more vacation time or that they leverage different income streams to become what Tim Ferris calls the new rich?

It's not the whole thing about being a millionaire. I'm not a millionaire at all but I live a very active and fun lifestyle traveling the world with my family and living debt free. It just boggles the mind as I watch people work their jobs that it's a dead end for them. I mean who wants to clean rooms for a career? Sure cleaning rooms for a bit to get your feet under you to get a higher paying job but that is the type of mentality that will never get you to a point to flying first class.

Residual Income Model – Generate Income 24 hrs a Day

One of the traits of someone who is the “new rich” that Tim Ferris talks about is that most if not all have some sort of assets that are there to work FOR them. The new rich are not only there to trade their time for money. When was the last time you saw someone fly first class or pay off their car in cash by telling themselves “I just need to work overtime and get in 60 hours a week for the next 5 years”.

Being able to get to a point where you can leverage someone else's time or leverage MONEY is when you get it. Having the ability to transform the way you earn you money is the first step in being financially free. Paying for your vacations or just being able to make some extra income without using your primary source of income. (more…)

Desperate For A Job – Well What Happened?

Chances are if your reading this your probably desperate for a job and looking to just get something in the door ASAP. I can understand this and everyone is at a different point in their lives.

Desperate For A Job – Skills?

First thing you want to do is figure out what your skills are because if your desperate for a job you must rely on your bread and butter. This might seem obvious but let's just make sure that has been covered.

If your not a dancer or have formal dancing or skills in dancing don't go try making a quick buck in that industry if your desperate for a job. Let's tap into what you have done in the past or have professional experience with.

If your totally green and have never really held a job before…. well it's time you get your fingers dirty and do whatever it takes to get the foot in the door even if it's a lower paying position. If your just looking for a job to fill in some financial gaps then do it short term as it's not a career change. Just get paid and when your up and running start looking to build your career in whatever floats your boat. Be it passion driven or income driven. When you at this stage and can claim to tell yourself that your “desperate for a job” then don't worry so much about the long term career path but more about this being a stop gap to where you will be going.

Desperate For A Job – Let's Understand Why

Now at your current time maybe it's a bit harder to think in hindsight but I think this is a better way to fix the REAL problem. Too many people only see the outcome and want a pill to fix every ill when really the best course of action is to analyze why your in this situation in the first place.

Many will deflect blame to a external source like:

1) My girlfriend left me

2) My car doesn't work

3) The job I wanted out of college was taken

There are all really excuses. If your going to survive in this economy you gotta suck it up and just make it happen. Stop blaming other external forces for the situation you are in. These are the cards you are dealt. You can bend over and get kicked in the butt or you can MAN THE F UP and just make it happen. All successful people in life, be it in business or personal enlightenment, all go through trials and tribulations but what doesn't kill you SHOULD make you stronger.

Just too bad so many live through tough times to NEVER really understand why they let themselves get there.

Now don't get me wrong. There are times that it's just messed up and there was nothing you could have done and you rolled with the punches that came your way. Well, you have skills so lets use them BUT understand prevention is much better for the long run then finding a quick fix.

Remember what a job stands for. (more…)

How To Make Extra Money? – Residual Income

One of the cool things about the internet are funny things to watch on youtube then late at night doing some searches for “how to make extra money“. There seems to be a lot of people with our economy these days doing searches about finding different ways to give their income a shot in the arm.

Besides looking for a new job or upgrading the one you got let's look at what anyone can do, especially if your reading this article.

How To Make Extra Money – Use The Internet and Computer

Chances are  your reading this article on your desktop monitor or a laptop. Now there are some of you that do read my content through your phone but let's keep it simple and say your main computer.

The economy isn't picking up very well and those looking for a job need to continue LOOK for a job. Don't give up hope. There is work for you out there.

I have been in your shoes. I was laid off for about 18 months during the whole 2000 crash when I was released from Motorola as a product packaging engineer. It was a good time for me and I treated it like a long vacation. I took good care of my wife and life was grand. Sure money was a bit tighter but you just make do and survive, right?

Well, during that time the internet was still growing and marketing and selling stuff online really wasn't taught to too many people. I remember looking for ways to get some spending money while I was in between jobs and all I got was a bunch of cash gifting and MLM stuff.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm fascinated by the MLM (multi level marketing) industry but at that time I didn't want to do any type of offline marketing let alone network marketing.

But…

That experience left me empty knowing that I could use the computer yet have no clue how to make extra money from it. I mean. Why is it so hard to learn how to make extra money online and especially if it could be residual… right? (more…)

Weekend Jobs vs Online Jobs

So what exactly is the draw for Weekend Jobs?

Weekend Jobs = Weekend Warriors

I've done the odd end job back in college and high school. I understand the draw. Back when I was in school (graduated college in 2000) the selection of jobs for students were pretty limited. There were some who went and became lab assistants while others worked as a waiter for bars and such during nights and weekends. With a full time schedule of 15-17 hours it's pretty hard to get a stable part time job.

So…

This is where the brain storming comes in to why so many students look for weekend jobs to supplement their cash or mainly replenish their alcohol fund.

I looked and got some small gigs at the mall doing a couple nights a week and weekends until I finally landed a cool gig grading material science homework papers. It paid more than going to the mall and all the grading took place while I was watching NWO wrestling (yes, back when it was getting big).

The benefits by working at home was awesome. Travel time and just not having to report to work on the COMPANY'S time was a life saver. Grading papers started when I wanted to start it. The only real requirements were that I had taken the class and applied for the grading position with my professor before anyone else. I guess it did help I had favor with the professor but that job was so awesome. (more…)
