Let us take a look INTO the future… what does it bring and how does your marketing today follow what could happen in the future?

Check out this video here.

When you think about the past, think of your life as a movie. Think about the decisions you made, the people you met, the loves gained and lost. Did you have a plan for your life? If so, did you meet your goals?

They say that past behavior is a good predictor of future decisions. That is true. But what if you could change the odds, make different decisions and go on a different path?

Do you like where you are now? If not, you are the best candidate for a change in your life.

Playing a bad movie… and having that play again in the future, is that where you want to be? Awareness of this is huge in being able change course.

Even if you do like where you are now, you are still watching these videos, which means that there is something that you want to change. That is a great first step to breaking the mold, bucking the statistics and choosing a new path for yourself.

Whether you are happy or not, and you would like to change your path, the next step would be to project into the future. In this case, I use the ten year mark. A lot can happen in ten years; how much change depends on what you want and what steps you take to get there.

My Ten-Year Goal Achieved

In my case, my goals were to live in a nicer neighborhood, in a good school district, and have happy kids. I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my children, so a full-time job was not ideal for me. Focusing on what I wanted, I needed to plan out my strategy for making this dream a reality. I needed to figure out exactly how much I needed to live a comfortable lifestyle, with some money left over to save for bigger goals down the road.

After I graduated college in 2000, I wanted to earn $12,000 a month in ten years or less. That seemed obtainable and enough to sustain a growing family.

$12,000 a month, or $144,000 a year, wasn't going to make me rich, but it was the “magic number” that would allow me to live the kind of life that I wanted to live.

I also did not want to retire at the age of 65. I wanted a longer retirement. Assuming I wanted retire earlier, say 50, I would have to make a large income, to have a larger nest egg, so that I could retire earlier. I needed to figure out what numbers I needed to achieve that. Things changed when I had children, wanted to send them to college and realized that I could not do that at the income I was making. That is when I started looking to make extra money outside of my job, without getting another job.  I was aiming to retire at 50. I retired at 33. I exceeded my goals.

Your Next Ten Years Mapped Out

Starting now, grab your significant other, sit down and look at what you have done, where you are now, and chart where you want to go. Do some math, and figure out what you need to get to the place you want to go. What increases do you need to make to your income?

This will help you get on the right path to building your business to meet your financial goals.

Thank you for watching Video 3 and see you on Video 4.

10 years from now I would love to finish college on to receiving my bachelor degree in civil engineering.

That would be a good testimate to the kids I may produce one day.

After college I would like to make at least 12k – 15k monthly.

I goals to move to California. And be married with kids. And financial free

    Lawrence Tam · October 11, 2018 at 4:01 pm

Cedric… 3 years later… are you closer to your goals?

carlene · August 1, 2015 at 10:20 am

10 Years from now mmmmmmmmmm. . . I actually watched this video 3 times in a row.I really always wanted to be independent meaning that I won’t be forced to do something I didn’t like just because I needed the money. Ultimately that will allow me to be happy in the future and concentrate on important things like my relationships in my life.I’m 19 need to decide what I’m going to do and I ALWAYS hated the idea of AVERAGE.

I see myself educated , loving my work, learning the piano because I always wanted to play an instrument.I see myself as someone living life by my own rules and ULTIMATELY living my life while I’m in it.

David Johns · July 8, 2015 at 5:38 pm

My situation would be similar Lawrence
In 10 years I would like to have my house paid, adequate savings, money for my kids college expenses, and giving lots of money to my favorite ministries. That would take between 12k and 15k per month.

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:38 pm

knowing WHERE you want to goal is super important.. then you can take a look at what you are doing today if it will take you there.

My 10 year goal is to be rich and support my colleage and school funds

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:37 pm

good goal and plenty of time to get there… put an action plan into place

Floyd Albarado · February 18, 2015 at 9:38 pm

Yes Lawrence, where I am today is a direct result of the actions that I took (and the ones I didn’t take) over the past 10+ years. However, the good news is that I can map out a plan of action to get me to the places I want to be 10 years from now! Ready to sit down and map it out (on paper)!

the mistake people make is they are always “treading water” but eventually just drowning… not swimming. gotta plan.

Joshua Wiesler · November 26, 2014 at 6:46 am

Great Analogy with the movie. My path sounds alot like yours. Working on doing something everyday to improve myself to get where I want to be in 10 years. As Jim Rohn said…Improve yourself to improve your life.

gotta always get better and Jim Rohn knows it best 😉

In 10 years I want to have me and my husband out of the rat race. I want our business to run without us constantly being involved so we can focus on more important things in life – being there for our kids, family and people who need our help.

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:39 pm

that means establishing systems, and people to replace you. it starts with YOU first… make sure to setup your systems and be mentored along the way.

I’ve had a goal in mind for my life for the past 5 years. I’ve always wanted to give my parents that little kick they needed to get them to retire early and start traveling. I know that during the next 10 years they’ll be given that dream with help from me. That’s not including taking a small portion of my Net Income to give to my parents as a Salary each year until they can access their Annuities.

For myself I’ve always wanted a small car collection. Nothing extremely fancy, but at least 4 or 5 classics I can ride around in. Lastly, I want my soon to be wife to be able to have the funding to do all the things she’s wanted to with her art.

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:40 pm

that’s pretty dang awesome and I like how specific you are.

Jason Counts · August 13, 2014 at 9:24 am

In 10 years I would like to have my sons college paid for 3 years ahead of time. A small home on the beach in Mexico for my wife. A home paid for here in the USA. Money in savings that I don’t have to worry about finance woes! Time and money to travel where I want and when I want….and like you I want to be able to give all my parents gave to me which is right along the lines with what your parents gave to you….Where I’m at now, Will I achieve this? NO!! Thats why I’m here to learn how to achieve this!!

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:44 pm

it’s been a year… have you grown your list? is your traffic bigger? did you learn a couple of new skills since last posting this?

Sheri Kreiner · August 13, 2014 at 4:55 am

Hi Lawrence…

This video really and truly made me seriously start thinking of where I want to be in 10 years. In answering the question of, am I where I want to be? Absolutely NO, I am not. And, definitely, in the past tense, I wasn’t even close to where I truly was looking to be. The following are goals I am focusing on to accomplishing within 10 years:
1. Own my own condo that I reside in most of year
2. At least have paid down on my school loans to where maybe just a 1/4 of the total amount remains
3. Purchase a home for my mom and dad
4. Take at least 5 vacations a year if not more
5. Have a list of 25,000 subscribers on FB
6. Video marketing becomes a strength

P.S. Thank you, Lawrence, for these outstanding video series as loads of value are in them!!!

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:46 pm

thank YOU for participating… i designed this so people can get something for nothing… but the real kicker is..

learning isn’t the hard part. it’s implementing and i’ve seen it time and time again.

people don’t REALLY want their goals… cause if they did they would work towards them.

if you really want your goals you gotta build towards it daily.

Isaac · August 11, 2014 at 6:29 pm

10 years?

The most important things are family ,health and wealth.

Having a Cliff Huxable kind of relationship with my boys is primary focus. Loving them, guiding them, help shaping them into productive, self sustaining , ambitious men who can follow their passions and dreams… this is my duty as a dad, coach, mentor, best friend and leader. So in ten years I must have shaped and burned these characteristics into their hearts and minds so when they go away to college and start to pursue their own passions being a follower isn’t an option.

Wealth will help me achieve the family goals. Living in a Huxtable kind of neighborhood where everyone is productive, positive and diverse. Being able to travel with them and expose them to the positive things and people in life. You don’t have to work your ass off, like my dad, for money to take care of your family, which leads to being frustrated and not having quality time ti spend with the ones you work so hard for in the first place. Financial stability will allow me to enjoy and spend time with the ones I love.

Health will allow to enjoy the time with my children. Playing sports at a high level with them. Being able to workout with them. To look 10-15 years younger, be in great shape in and out. Teaching them by example how to take car of their body and eat right. This will help me enjoy them for a very long time…

So, 5-10 mill a year in 5 years is decent…, great shape and health, and great relationship and friendship with my boys. I MUST!!!

    Lawrence Tam · August 12, 2014 at 8:15 am

awesome… love the “Cliff Huxable” analogy 😉

Tina Rhodie · July 28, 2014 at 11:08 pm

In 10 years from now, my youngest daughter will be 25 and therefore all children will be out of the house..lol. Looking at my past and where I am today, I consider myself to have failed my way forward and on the right path. I still have some skills to learn that will get me there but I know that I will get there. My vision of my life in 10 years includes living in my dream house of at least 6 bedrooms (I’m sure I’ll have more than 2 grandchildren by then) with lots of bathrooms and driving a Porsche – my dream car. I will have established housing for domestic violence victims in NYC prior to leaving and in the process of establishing housing in my current home state (haven’t decided where that will be yet). This will require at least a high 5 to 6 figure monthly income to maintain.

    Lawrence Tam · July 30, 2014 at 5:08 pm

YES!!!!!! love it…. (and I prefer the porsche over bmw… just in case you were wondering)

Nick Irwin · July 24, 2014 at 10:13 am

L.T.

In ten years, I want to be living a comfortable life….earning at least 10k month. Living in the city best fit for myself & my future. Also being able to take on different business opportunities that come my way. I don’t want to limit myself in any fashion. I know one day when the time comes and have a wife & kids my needs & goals will change, similar to yourself with moving into a better community, school system & being able to retire your wife. Whenever that time comes…. Not anytime soon haha ! Right now I consider myself in “build mode” setting myself up for the future. I’m somewhat of a free spirit going where life takes me. At this time my focus is day to day, gradually changing year to year, then five years, 10 years so on….
NO, I am not happy with where I’m at. Made some stupid life choices that have affected my now. Over the last six months I’ve began making changes so I can have a better future. These are just a few reasons why I reached out to you & will put the necessary work in for help. My goals are attainable & the only person that can stop me is myself. I’m ready to learn & grow.

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:48 pm

– Pay off all of my credit card debt monthly
– Travel worldwide as a professional speaker
– Go on a major trip every quarter and take a week long vacation every month
– Hire a personal chef/ nutritionist/massage therapist/personal trainer/driver
– Have all my clothes tailor made
– Earn $25,000/month

    love it….

learn and teach. that’s how you do it.

now I’m not a financial planner… but “cash is king” you might want to NOT buy a new car in case but lease or take that money and finance it at a low rate and take the rest and invest somewhere else

Hi Lawrence, thank you for another thought provoking video…I don’t have a job at present as I am a full time mum to my children. In 10 years, I want to be totally free – financially and emotionally (never want to have a day of doubting myself again); I want to be a leader and I’d love to help others achieve their dreams too. I want to be happy!

    Lawrence Tam · July 15, 2015 at 4:47 pm

a lot of that starts with you… and awesome part of that.. you can do it!

Peter de Vera · July 9, 2014 at 2:16 pm

Dear Lawrence,

Within 10 years, I want the freedom where I no longer have to worry about money and the stress of the lack of it. I want and must have a thriving business that has a superior cash flow even while I am sleeping. Sticking with you will help me achieve a lot of my goals and dreams. I will make proper planning this time around. Me and my wife will make it happen. I really appreciate the guidance.

Thank you for sharing this Video 3. into the future for the next 10 years. I see myself full of freedom with my family and life. I must make at least $100,000 a month this year, the latest by next year.

Thank you very much for sharing this!

Peter

the growth pattern you exhibit will point you in the right direction.. if you aren’t growing you know the income won’t flow as easily.

Kenny Wilkinson · July 7, 2014 at 4:14 pm

Lawrence,

I like that this forces me to work backwards from my goal. Knowing where I want to be will allow for the how to present itself.

10 years from now I would like to have:

house – mortgage free
2 cars and 1 truck – paid for
ability to work from wherever I am (tablet and mobile internet)
earned at least 1 million dollars within that 10 years

Kenny

    Lawrence Tam · July 8, 2014 at 11:54 am

knowing where your goals are is SUPER important…

let’s take your case here @kenny

    and my points of view…

1 – having a mortgage when you have a low interest rate isn’t a bad thing (you get to write it off)… one of the largest write offs you get unless you have others (you should… but most don’t). plus cash is king, you can use that cash else where for investments

2 – same as #1. you can write of a lot of it if you lease/depreciate it for the business. doesn’t have to be paid off to get it as a write off – check with your accountant of course. If you don’t have one… you can leverage mine who has been learning the ins and outs of internet marketing and what we do 😉

Nick Kabani – DIRECT 713.364.1702 [email protected]

Tell him “Lawrence Tam” sent you and your business model is very similar to mine (internet marketing)

3 – i would prefer a full blown laptop (tablet aren’t the best for some some of the stuff I personally do.

    4 – 1 million / 10 years = $100,000 a year. $8,333/month … TOTALLY doable 😉

      Kenny Wilkinson · July 8, 2014 at 1:48 pm

I have and accountant currently but will consider switching to Nick.

      Thanks,

      Kenny

        Lawrence Tam · July 8, 2014 at 2:17 pm

GOOOOD! I remember NOT having an accountant for the first couple years since I wasn’t making any more… oh man… the paper nightmare.. hahah

Silas Washington · July 6, 2014 at 11:19 am

Since I am new to the this niche to earn at least $5,000 a month to start off with would be nice. Then I would grind harder for more.

Andre Kotze · July 5, 2014 at 3:49 am

hey Lawrence 🙂

10 years…. thats a lifetime for me as I’m already 55… and ageing…lol

I want a residual income of $50,000 per month within the next 12 months and would love to learn how to leverage everything that I possible can to do that. For some it might seem very high but we lived on over 2 million per annum before we lost everything 15 months ago and I want to build it back asap.

So, my goal is $50k in 12 months by helping others live Their Dream Life.

We have just successfully had our first Kindle Book in the international Best Seller List during it’s Free launch. At it’s current sales price of $4.99 it isn’t going to get us where we want to go. 🙂

I will appreciate any help and guidance you can give me…. will park my ego outside the door and become your student… and then pay it forward to others that are serious about creating their dream life.

    Lawrence Tam · July 5, 2014 at 11:50 am

after being a high end earner you get what it takes…

here is another hint for you… you need a backend to that kindle book. the money isn’t from the sales of the kindle book 😉 unless you sell millions of them

Jill Klunk · July 4, 2014 at 9:29 pm

My 10-Year Plan

I had always wanted to live in a nice house and neighborhood, spend as much time as possible with my husband as I possibly could, go on vacations, travel, have a nice car, a pool in the yard and have sufficient monies to live comfortably. I didn’t want to retire at age 65; I wanted to retire at age 56. I focused on what I wanted, the type of lifestyle I wanted, and set up a plan and a strategy to make it a reality. But as they say, I had been there and done that and the rest is history.

So after thirty-seven years of working in Corporate America I left my job at age 56. After 18 months I realized I could not afford to be retired and started my 3rd career – real estate professional. Fast forward ten years and I am no further ahead.

I have taken a serious look at where I am and what I need for my 10-year plan to improve my lifestyle and live a more enriched life. My affirmations are:

• I will read for one hour per day (Learn)
• I will write for an hour per day (Do/Act)
• I will think for an hour per day (Teach)

I will need to make $12,000 per month to have a nest egg, get out of debt, re-establish my emergency fund, Roth account, set up trust accounts for my grand-children and regain my happier and fulfilling life. I will need to make extra money outside of my job, without having to get another job.

So how will I do this? I will need to create residual income, an income that keeps on coming regardless if I take a day off or not. Since I already work a full-time job I have to find something that will pay me enough, in the available time I have (2 to 3 hours per day) to meet my goal.

Thank you Lawrence for a great video series.

    Lawrence Tam · July 5, 2014 at 11:53 am

i love this post.. the clarity of what you want and direction is a very important point to come to. this will allow you to clearly define goals and plan a path to get there.

I built my business part time and your benefit is that it’s not going to be harder than when I did it… I had no one really coaching me and didn’t have resources like this that were freely available.

Elvira · July 2, 2014 at 8:32 pm

Where I have been, where I am and where I want to be.
Basically I said it all in the last comment of the “Why”, but I do see myelf as a phylanthropist, would that not be so cool to give to others as much as possible, that would be such a blessing. I am already 58 years old and I don’t really have 10 years per say. So I would like to get to my goals alot sooner. Then of course thru this business, we are able to teach others to do the same. That in itself is so worth it. Thanks again LT!

    Lawrence Tam · July 3, 2014 at 7:50 am

putting your goals on a timeline vs just saying… it’s gonna happen in the future… it’s interesting to see… if you put it closer in the future vs just “future”

Mario Urbina · June 23, 2014 at 5:32 pm

Nice Video, my movie would be the type of stuff that would change Joseph Campbels theory, and make Joe Peschis character in Goodfellas lol .. My Goal is to have my family financially educated/secured and being an example of Living Pura Vida and changing as many peoples lives for the better until my last breath. And Having residual income of $25k+ a month would be Nice 😉

It isn’t about money to plan for future
Money is result of our work
i think more of how and why
Donald trump is a multi-millionaire
he would stop working since long long time if he just think on money
NO! he want more than just some millions of $$. he have bigger goals
The same with steve job i think you too ^^
and that what i’m believing on

those are my keys to open a door of success ^^

Walter · May 24, 2014 at 10:58 am

My 10 year plan? It definitely looks much different than that of the plan I am on currently with my job.
Where I work now will absolutely not get me to where I want to be in 10 years. Something has to change….. I want to have my money work for me, rather than the other way around. I want to build a legacy that can create residual income for my family, also freeing up time for them.

it’s important to look ahead.. and most jobs don’t want you to look… welcome to your new future

I probably need about $20,000 – I am off the pace at the moment, but hitting that will put me on track to where I want to be in 1o years time e.g. House paid off and the ability to help my family in any financial situation (hopefully this will come a lot sooner).

not hopefully… IT WILL… put yourself in a position to DO IT>. 😉

That was a nasty hiatus…
Hey LT, I’m still plugged in and ready to learn. My ten year outlook holds a very different path from the one I’m currently on. It includes continuing to help others as I have the freedom to work on whatever project I choose. It includes writing children’s books. It includes automated savings and finances. It includes rubbing elbows with the like of Lawrence Tam and David Wood. All these things are possible, with proper coaching and motivation.

Here’s a review of video 3:

See you on the next video comments!

In order to live the type of life style I want to live, I need roughly a budget of $180,000 a year.

I plan to make that happen this year after living under our means for a long time to invest into our business.

In the next ten years we would like to have generated 100 million dollars to create several transformitive personal development centers into low income communities and experience with my family travel and explore the world. go to see my family in mexico every other month and empower people down there. I want to make a difference on a global level.

God’s will for our life is set and it is up to us to walk in line with
his will. God chooses each one of us and he has a will for every one of
our lives….

It’s a funny thing – when I was 30-something, I could easily look ahead 10 years. Now, at 60-something, it’s not so easy. I don’t assume I’ll be around in 10 years, so I haven’t given that a lot of serious thought. Lately, I’ve been looking at life more on a day-to-day or week-to-week or, sometimes, month-to-month basis. I guess it would be better if I were to assume I’ll live another 20-30 years, but in all honesty, I don’t feel like I have that kind of time.

A year from now, I want to have gotten my home into shape, put on the market, and gotten the hell out of Dodge. I want to travel for 6 months and then settle down somewhere in the world where I can have my dream home. I have a very clear image of what that is and how I will live. I don’t know where, as yet, but am working on that.  My leaving here won’t be dependent on the sale of my home, I will have enough cash flow to do it regardless. My debts will all be paid, and I will have the freedom to just be.

I have decided what my income needs to be to bring this about, and I’m heading straight on to make it happen. I have put the blinders on, have sworn off the shiny-ball syndrome, and am going balls-to-the walls to get there as quickly as I can. I’m a short-timer. I don’t have forever.

Thank you SO much for “assigning” me these videos. It is an immense help for me to watch them, digest your thought-provoking message, and actually write my  response. It has been gutwrenching, which tells me there is some very important stuff coming out of it.

My goal for my future is to be one of the top music producers in the world! I want to turn on the radio and hear a song that I made for an artist on the radio! I want to have at least 100k in the bank for leisure! Waking up in my house with my family and in our HUGE mansion!!!

But yes…I want to be a top music producer!

Jaynae · December 14, 2013 at 6:11 pm

My goal is to buy my 4 bedroom home, travel more, own a mercedes benz and a range rover. Take the whole family on a 3 week vacation. I want to make at least 15,000.00 to $20,000.00 a month. I am on the path to getting there.

Pat Cooksey · December 13, 2013 at 3:49 pm

My 10 year goal, is to retire early, buy a new home, be able to travel, help teach my girls so that my girls and grandbabies are financially secure and to be able to teach others how to obtain their dreams.
